INDIAN PM SAYS SHARING BUDDHA’S RELICS WITH VN BECOMES CULTURAL PHENOMENON

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the profound spiritual and cultural impact of sharing the Buddha’s sacred relics with Việt Nam, calling it a powerful expression of the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. Speaking during his Mann Ki Baat radio programme, Modi noted that over 15 million Vietnamese pilgrims visited nine sites hosting the relics, reflecting immense public devotion. Despite weather challenges, people from all walks of life queued for hours to pay homage, prompting the Vietnamese Government to request — and receive — a 12-day extension for the relics’ enshrinement. Modi described the event as evolving into a national festival in Việt Nam, demonstrating the far-reaching influence of India’s cultural heritage. He emphasised Buddhism’s unifying power in connecting nations like Việt Nam, Thailand, and Mongolia. Modi also urged Indians to explore Buddhist sites domestically, to experience the spiritual and cultural richness of the country’s heritage. — VNS (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
