LG CNS PARTNERS WITH SKILD AI TO DEVELOP HUMANOID SOLUTION

LG CNS has signed a strategic partnership with the U.S.-based robotics company Skild AI, entering the industrial artificial intelligence (AI) humanoid robot market to compete in the physical AI era. The company announced the new partnership Tuesday, adding it has also made an investment in the startup through LG’s corporate venture capital arm, LG Technology Ventures. Skild AI is a globally recognized AI robotics startup, co-founded by Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta, both renowned professors of computer science and robotics at Carnegie Mellon University. The company’s core technology is the robot foundation model (RFM), a pretrained machine learning model that serves as the brain to determine robot behavior. By learning from large amounts of data, including images, text, audio and video, the model enables robots to autonomously explore, manipulate objects and perform complex tasks by interacting with their environments. The RFM is highly versatile and can be applied not only to humanoid robots but to all types of robots. “By combining the leading global robotics AI company Skild AI’s RFM with LG CNS’ robot solution technology, we will become the top intelligent AI robotics service provider,” said Lee Jun-ho, senior vice president of LG CNS’ Smart Logistics and City Business Division. “We will support our customers in making their work more intelligent and achieving business results through AI humanoid robots.” With this partnership, LG CNS plans to develop industrial AI humanoid robot solutions based on Skild AI’s RFM. These solutions, fine-tuned with data from manufacturing, logistics and other industrial sites, will be used to support robots to carry out a variety of tasks that were previously difficult for conventional robots. Operating robots previously required developing and controlling models for each specific task, which was costly and time-consuming. However, the RFM allows robots to quickly learn from photos and videos of actual industrial tasks and autonomously perform actions. Industrial AI humanoid robots can effectively carry out repetitive, high-intensity and hazardous tasks such as monitoring and operating factory equipment, assembling products, handling hazardous materials and operating picking and loading in logistics centers. In urban areas, they can also serve as service robots, such as for elder care and patrols. LG CNS intends to offer an AI humanoid robot integrated service to its clients across various industries, including smart factories, smart logistics and smart cities. This service will comprise Skild AI’s RFM, LG CNS’ integrated platform for robot control, management and operation, as well as its solutions for smart factories, logistics and city and robot hardware. LG CNS plans to collaborate with robot manufacturing companies for hardware.         (ICE SEOUL)
