INDONESIA OPENS INVESTMENT FOR NATIONAL SALT HUB IN ROTE NDAO

The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is spearheading the development of the National Salt Industry Center (K-SIGN) in Rote Ndao, East Nusa Tenggara, aiming to achieve salt self-sufficiency by 2027 under Presidential Regulation No. 17 of 2025. With over 10,000 hectares of dry-season-prone land—mirroring Australia’s Dampier region—the project targets a production yield of 200 tons per hectare per cycle. It brings together central and local governments, SOEs like PT Garam, and private investors to build a fully integrated system of salt ponds, processing units, warehouses, and logistics infrastructure. K-SIGN is designed not only to bolster domestic salt supply, reducing dependence on 2.5 million tons of imported salt annually, but also to stimulate economic growth by creating up to 26,000 jobs and boosting local incomes to 2.5 times the regional minimum wage. The center will focus on downstream innovation, producing high-value salt-based goods while leveraging advanced technology and institutional collaboration. Ultimately, Rote Ndao is being shaped into a modern, internationally competitive benchmark for tropical salt production and a pillar of national food and industry resilience.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/360169/indonesia-opens-investment-for-national-salt-hub-in-rote-ndao?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
