INDONESIA TARGETS UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER BY 2045
Indonesia has set a bold target to provide 100% of its population with access to clean water by 2045, a significant leap from the current 22% with piped water access. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, announced that the government aims to raise this figure to 40% in the near term under the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN). Achieving this goal will require an estimated IDR 100 trillion (around US$6.25 billion) in investment and strong collaboration between central and local governments, the private sector, and civil society. Yudhoyono emphasized that clean water access is not just a development issue but a matter of national and global security. He called for a cross-sectoral approach and collective commitment to build a sustainable water system. The urgency of this initiative is underscored by the UN’s 2024 report, which highlights that 2.2 billion people globally still lack safe drinking water. With over 280 million citizens, Indonesia faces similar challenges, making this initiative crucial for public health, economic resilience, and long-term sustainability.Source: https://en.vietnamplus.vn/indonesia-targets-universal-access-to-clean-water-by-2045-post321017.vnp (ICE GIACARTA)
