INDONESIA LIFTS CATTLE IMPORT LIMITS TO BOOST MEAT AND MILK SUPPLY

The Indonesian government has lifted quota restrictions on live cattle imports to boost the supply of meat and milk and strengthen national food security. Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, announced the policy during Nusantara Milk Day 2025, stating that importers can now bring in cattle without limits to support both the livestock industry and public consumption. The move is expected to help the domestic dairy processing sector increase production, improve quality, and enhance supply chain resilience. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono previously revealed that Indonesia plans to import 2 million live cattle over the next five years, including 1.2 million dairy cows, with 250,000 targeted for 2025 alone. These imports are considered investments and will not rely on the State Budget. The government is also encouraging investment in cattle breeding from domestic and foreign entities. In March, 1,250 dairy cows from Australia arrived in East Java as part of this broader effort to strengthen the national dairy industry.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/359485/indonesia-lifts-cattle-import-limits-to-boost-meat-milk-supply?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
