KTZ opens 115,000-TEU container terminal in AlmatyNational Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ, part of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund group) has opened the ZHETYSU container terminal in Almaty with a capacity of 115,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) per year, the company said on Tuesday.According to the press service, the terminal received its first container train on its opening day, dispatched from the Kazakhstan-China cargo terminal in Xi’an (China)."Kazakhstan aims to become a full-fledged transport and logistics hub for Central Asia and the Caspian region. We are developing logistics along international corridors by implementing large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the dry ports in Khorgos and Xi’an, the international logistics hub in Lianyungang, and the seaports of Kuryk and Aktau. The opening of the new terminal in Almaty is part of this strategy," Samruk-Kazyna CEO Nurlan Zhakupov is quoted as saying in the statement.The terminal’s total area is 9.8 hectares, including a 92,000 square meters container yard designed for simultaneous storage of up to 11,010 TEU. The warehouse area covers 23,400 square meters. (ICE ALMATY)
