INDONESIA AIMS TO STOP CORN IMPORTS IN 2026
President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia is aiming to achieve corn self-sufficiency by 2026, ending imports which currently stand at around 500,000 tonnes annually. Speaking during a corn harvest and the launch of Indonesia’s first corn exports to Malaysia, he noted that national corn production rose by 48% in early 2025, with yields increasing from 4 to 6–8 tonnes per hectare. Between January and July 2025, output is expected to reach 9.45 million tonnes, marking an 11% increase over the same period last year. Key initiatives supporting this goal include the One Million Hectare Corn Planting Programme, backed by the National Police, and the use of high-quality seeds and organic fertilisers. President Prabowo emphasized the importance of agricultural innovation, particularly in processing corn into value-added products like corn chips and corn rice. He also stressed that rising production must be accompanied by improved farmer welfare through access to machinery, technology, seeds, and eco-friendly fertilisers.Source: https://en.vietnamplus.vn/indonesia-aims-to-stop-corn-imports-in-2026-post320654.vnp (ICE GIACARTA)
