INDONESIA AIMS TO MEET ENERGY TRANSITION GOAL THIS YEAR
Indonesia is intensifying efforts to increase the share of new and renewable energy in its national energy mix to 23% by the end of 2025, as part of its broader energy transition strategy outlined in the National Energy General Plan (RUEN). According to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, this includes plans to phase out coal-fired power plants by 2040 and leverage initiatives like the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) to boost renewable energy’s share to 44% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions in the electricity sector by 2050. Key elements of this strategy include renewable energy development, coal phase-out, energy efficiency, electrification, grid modernization, and investment mobilization. The ministry emphasized the need for strong stakeholder collaboration, environmentally responsible practices, and the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG principles. A coordinated, technology-driven approach across upstream and downstream sectors is considered essential to achieving both energy and economic growth targets, including an ambitious 8% GDP growth.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/358697/indonesia-aims-to-meet-energy-transition-goal-this-year (ICE GIACARTA)
