Kazakh authorities dismantle criminal group selling personal dataThe cybercrime department of Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry, working with the National Security Committee, shut down an organized crime group involved in illegally selling citizens' personal data online, the Interior Ministry reported Monday."The crime group had been harvesting information from government databases and distributing it through Telegram channels. The data was reportedly sold to collection agencies and other buyers," Zhandos Suyinbay, head of the Interior Ministry's cybercrime department, said."More than 140 suspects have been detained, including company owners and Telegram channel administrators. Five key suspects are currently under arrest," he said.During raids on collection agencies, authorities seized over 400 computers and electronic devices. Investigators continue working to identify all individuals involved in the operation.Criminal cases have been initiated under three articles of Kazakhstan's criminal code: unauthorized access to computer information, breaches of personal data protection laws, and unlawful dissemination of restricted digital resources.
