Kazakhstan thwarts attempts to illegally export strategic raw materials abroadLaw enforcement officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Kazakhstan, in cooperation with other agencies, have detained several batches of strategically important raw materials intended for illegal export, the press service of the republic's MIA reported.According to information released on Thursday, in the Zhetysu region, operatives from the Police Department, together with the Economic Investigations Department and the Customs Service, intercepted two cargo trucks transporting over 60 tonnes of lead."Preliminary information indicates the lead was intended for illegal shipment abroad. The market value of the cargo exceeds 60 million tenge," the statement said.Investigative measures are currently underway to identify and detain all individuals involved in this incident.Furthermore, in the North Kazakhstan region, the activities of a partnership attempting to export ferrous metal scrap disguised as high-alloy steel were stopped."Approximately 1,000 tonnes of scrap metal were discovered, including seven railcars prepared for shipment to a neighboring country," the report stated.In the Mangystau region, a maritime smuggling channel for sending scrap metal to a Caspian region country was uncovered."Over 400 tonnes of scrap metal were found on the premises of an enterprise. Two containers were prepared for export," the statement said.The information indicates that those responsible in all these cases have been held accountable. (ICE ALMATY)
