INDONESIA: BUILDING A RESPONSIBLE AI ECOSYSTEM COLLABORATIVELY

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is working to advance its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities through international collaboration, notably with Professor Dawn Song from UC Berkeley. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria emphasized the importance of safe and ethical AI development, proposing the creation of a national network of AI security institutions to unite government, academia, industry, and civil society. This initiative would support research in AI interpretability, resilience, and risk mitigation while promoting responsible adoption through policy development, capacity building, and public engagement. A key recommendation is the formation of an advisory body to ensure ethical oversight and alignment with international standards. In parallel, Indonesia is strengthening global partnerships, including with Slovakia and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to promote inclusive AI governance. Through initiatives like the upcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit and the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform, Indonesia advocates for bridging AI development gaps between the Global North and South. Its focus on collaborative regulation, joint research, and sustainable innovation demonstrates a commitment to building a secure, ethical, and inclusive AI ecosystem that benefits all sectors of society.Source: https://opengovasia.com/2025/06/02/indonesia-building-a-responsible-ai-ecosystem-collaboratively/ (ICE GIACARTA)
