INDONESIA LAUNCHES SALT INDUSTRY CENTER DEVELOPMENT IN EAST NUSA TENGGARA
Indonesia's Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, announced that the first phase of the National Salt Industry Center Area (K-SIGN) development in Rote Ndao, East Nusa Tenggara, will begin in July 2025, covering 1,300 hectares. The second phase, set for 2026, will expand the area to around 9,000 hectares, with the total goal of over 10,000 hectares dedicated to producing industrial-grade salt equivalent to imported salt. This initiative is part of Indonesia’s effort to achieve salt self-sufficiency by 2027.The K-SIGN, officially designated through Ministerial Decree Number 28 of 2025, spans 10,764 hectares and will serve as a national model for salt production. It will implement modern technology, integrate the full supply chain, support partnerships between farmers and industry, and improve farmers' access to financing.
