WORLD BANK REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR IRAQ'S REFORM AGENDA
In a meeting held on Tuesday, Iraq's Minister of Finance, Taif Sami Mohammed, welcomed a delegation from the World Bank's Environment Section, led by Regional Director Ms. Maskeren Bahraini, to discuss closer collaboration on financial reform and sustainable environmental development.The talks covered key World Bank projects focused on environmental protection and improved resource management. Discussions also addressed integrating environmental considerations into financial policies and developing climate adaptation spending mechanisms.Minister Sami highlighted the vital connection between fiscal reform and environmental policy, emphasising the ministry's commitment to allocating resources towards sustainability and supporting Iraq's transition to a green economy. She also underlined the need for both technical assistance and financing to support this shift.Ms. Bahraini reiterated the World Bank's commitment to helping Iraq build a financial system responsive to environmental challenges. She confirmed the Bank's readiness to provide expertise and additional funding for climate-focused projects.The meeting concluded with an agreement to intensify coordination on joint environmental initiatives and expand partnerships to ensure efficient use of resources in addressing Iraq's environmental and economic challenges.
