IRAN-CHINA MONTHLY NON-OIL TRADE STANDS AT $1.765B

In the first Iranian calendar month (March 21–April 21, 2025), non-oil trade between Iran and China reached $1.765 billion, with China importing $997 million worth of goods from Iran and exporting $768 million to Iran. Over the past Iranian year (ended March 20, 2025), total non-oil trade stood at $34.1 billion, with Iran exporting $14.8 billion and importing $19.3 billion from China, making China Iran’s top export destination and second-largest source of imports.On May 4, the Tehran Chamber of Commerce hosted the Iran-China Business Development Forum, attended by key officials and business leaders from both countries. TCCIMA Head Mahmoud Najafi Arab emphasized centuries of shared commercial ties and called for enhanced cooperation in investment and trade. China’s Ambassador Cong Peiwu reaffirmed China’s commitment to broadening bilateral cooperation. MP Ruhollah Nejabat highlighted China’s significant share in Iran’s non-oil trade and stressed the importance of industrial modernization and foreign investment.Nejabat called for joint ventures, technology transfer, and deeper cooperation, noting Iran's incentives for foreign industrial investment and its underdeveloped mining sector as key opportunities. TPO head Mohammad Ali Dehghan Dehnavi outlined four strategies to boost trade with China: technology transfer, increasing high value-added exports, co-investment for joint production, and mutual market access.Tehran Chamber Secretary General Fereydoun Vardinejad acknowledged strong political ties but noted gaps in economic collaboration due to limited information exchange. He urged concrete steps like trade missions, specialized meetings, and support for sectors such as biotech, nanotech, and digital economy. Hossein Eyvazlou of Iran’s National Development Fund announced plans to attract Chinese investment aligned with Iran’s development goals. These efforts are supported by a 25-year strategic cooperation agreement signed in 2021, with multiple MOUs signed in 2022 and 2023 to facilitate its implementation. (ICE TEHERAN)
