IRAQ SEES "OVER $64BN" IN FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN TWO YEARS
National Investment Commission (NIC) Chairman Haider Makiya [Makiyya] has announced that Iraq attracted more than $64 billion in foreign investment over the past two years, underscoring growing global confidence in the country's economic trajectory.Speaking to the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA), Makiya credited the surge to effective investment planning completed in 2023, with tangible results materialising in 2024 and 2025.He emphasised that the majority of the investment capital stems from major international companies currently operating directly within Iraq. Makiya also referenced a recent statement by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani to Parliament, which confirmed that foreign investments now exceed $60-63 billion. The NIC sees this momentum as evidence of sustained investor interest and a shift toward long-term economic engagement with Iraq.
