The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is set to commence operations in Iraq this September, following the country's accession to the European Union Bank.Ali Mohsen Al-Allaq, Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), received an EBRD delegation in Baghdad to discuss the final steps required before operations begin.During the meeting, Al-Allaq outlined the ongoing financial and banking reform plans, emphasising the Central Bank's role in maintaining monetary stability, controlling inflation, and preserving general price levels. He also highlighted progress in banking digitisation and the adoption of financial technologies for service delivery.The discussions also covered the Central Bank's role in promoting economic growth through targeted funding initiatives across various economic sectors.The EBRD delegation expressed readiness to offer technical support and financing to help rebuild and modernise infrastructure, promote green economy initiatives, and empower the private sector to drive economic development.
