PRIVATE SECTOR SEEN AS KEY DRIVER OF VIỆT NAM’S ECONOMY

Vietnam’s private sector has been officially recognized as a pivotal force in national development under Resolution 68, issued by the Politburo in May 2025. This strategic shift aims to empower private enterprises to lead in innovation, technology, and digital transformation. At a recent conference in Hà Nội, experts emphasized the need to institutionalize the resolution with actionable frameworks, legal clarity, and efficient implementation. Resolution 68 marks the first time the private sector has been positioned at the center of a service-oriented state apparatus. In 2024, the economy grew by 7.09%, but 2025 brings new global uncertainties. To remain competitive, policies now aim to improve access to land, finance, talent, and reduce regulatory burdens. Business leaders advocated for a shift from pre-inspection to post-inspection mechanisms, reducing compliance costs and expediting approvals. Despite contributing nearly 60% of GDP, domestic firms face disadvantages compared to foreign investors, highlighting the urgency for structural reforms. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
