INDONESIA TO OFFER 60 NEW OIL & GAS WORKING AREAS IN THE NEXT TWO YEARS

The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force of Indonesia (SKK Migas) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s energy security and attracting investment by ramping up upstream oil and gas activities. At the 49th IPA Conference, Head of SKK Migas Djoko Siswanto announced plans to offer 60 new oil and gas working areas within two years, highlighting the country’s growing appeal as a Southeast Asian exploration hotspot. With only 20 of 128 sedimentary basins currently producing, the agency is pushing for increased exploration through flexible fiscal policies, improved regulatory frameworks, and investor-friendly mechanisms such as farm-ins and strategic partnerships. SKK Migas emphasized its role as a responsive partner, providing data access and streamlined processes to accelerate project realization. In support of this push, energy expert Pri Agung Rakhmanto underscored the need for government intervention to develop upstream infrastructure, which he sees as foundational for downstream growth and industrialization. He stressed that when market forces fall short, state involvement—through policy or direct funding—is essential to sustain momentum and reduce reliance on energy imports.Source:  https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/4359/policy-and-governance/government-to-offer-60-new-oil-gas-working-areas-in-the-next-two-years (ICE GIACARTA)
