Kazakhstan resumes wheat exports to Vietnam after 8 yearsKazakhstan’s Food Contract Corporation is preparing the shipment of 15,000 tonnes of high-quality Kazakh wheat to Vietnam, the company’s press service said. The last shipment of Kazakh grain to Vietnam, 720 tonnes, took place in 2017.The container train will depart from grain-receiving enterprises in the Akmola region. The delivery will follow a multimodal route: the wheat will first be transported by rail to the Chinese seaport of Lianyungang via the Dostyk-Alashankou checkpoints on the Kazakh-Chinese border, then reloaded onto vessels for shipment to the Vietnamese port of Hai Phong. The Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture said that entry into the Southeast Asian market will mark a key step in Kazakhstan’s strategy to diversify export destinations for its agricultural products."Over the past five years, Food Contract Corporation has been supplying about 200,000 tonnes of grain to China a year to strengthen its presence in this market, which is a priority destination for Kazakhstan. This year, we plan to increase export volumes by expanding our export geography. As much as 60,000 tonnes of food-grade wheat have already been shipped to the Kingdom of Morocco. As for Southeast Asia, this market holds significant potential and is attractive for Kazakh agricultural producers," said Asylkhan Djuvashev, the head of Food Contract Corporation.Food Contract Corporation JSC, created in 1995, is the operator for grain purchase for the government reserves. The company had been owned by National Holding KazAgro until June 2020 when its ownership was transferred to the government (the Ministry of Agriculture). (ICE ALMATY)
