TAIWAN STOCK MARKET GAINS AS SILICON CARBIDE SUPPLIERS ATTRACT INTEREST Computex Taipei provides additional boost

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's stock market rose Wednesday as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s (黃仁勳) appearance at Computex Taipei drew attention to Nvidia-related shares.The Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index, or TAIEX, gained 277.88 points to close at 21,803.91. Turnover totaled NT$297 billion (US$9.9 billion), according to CNA and CTEE.TSMC rose 1.23% to finish at NT$990. MediaTek gained 1.9% to NT$1,340, and Foxconn added 0.65% to close at NT$155.Taiwanese silicon carbide suppliers advanced following reports that US-based Wolfspeed may be considering bankruptcy. The news prompted increased interest in local SiC companies, including Episil Technologies, Episil-Precision, and Mosel Vitelic, which all reached their daily trading limits.SiC is made up of tightly bonded silicon and carbon atoms, creating a stable material with low energy loss and high power handling capabilities. This makes SiC ideal for high-voltage and high-current applications, including electric vehicles, EV charging stations, and renewable energy generation systemsSolar and optoelectronics stocks also rose as the US prepares to issue a final decision in June on proposed tariffs targeting imports from four Southeast Asian countries. At the same time, China has launched a restructuring effort to address overcapacity in its domestic solar sector.Investors viewed the developments as potentially favorable for Taiwanese firms in the sector. United Renewable Energy, Tainergy Tech, TSEC, Cheng Tian Photoelectric Technology, Hunt Electronic, Motech Industries, and Appro Photoelectron reached their daily limits.Financial stocks rose after Huang featured Cathay Financial, CTBC Financial, and E.Sun Financial during his keynote presentation. Cathay increased by over 3%, and CTBC recorded a trading volume of more than 130,000 shares.US-based foreign institutional investors maintained a positive outlook on Taiwan’s printed circuit board industry.
