E-commerce share in Kazakhstan rises to 14.1% in 2024The share of e-commerce in Kazakhstan’s domestic market, including marketplaces, reached 14.1% of the total retail trade volume in 2024, amounting to 3.156 trillion tenge in monetary terms, according to the Bureau of National Statistics under the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms.In 2023, the e-commerce share was 12.7%, followed by 12.5% in 2022, 3.6% in 2021, and 4.1% in 2020.Last year, retail trade turnover via e-commerce platforms (marketplaces) totaled 2.680 trillion tenge (84.9%), while retail businesses selling goods through their own online platforms accounted for 476.5 billion tenge (15.1%).Marketplaces were used by 82.5% of businesses, while 26.8% sold goods and services through their own online platforms.In 2024, the volume of e-commerce services, including marketplaces, reached 2.443 trillion tenge. Services provided through marketplaces amounted to 2.065 trillion tenge (84.5%), while services offered via businesses’ own online platforms totaled 378.2 billion tenge (15.5%).In 2024, the largest shares of retail goods sold through marketplaces were: Phones and gadgets: 27.4%; Household appliances: 13.3%; Clothing, footwear, and sports goods: 10.3%; Computers, laptops, software, and computer accessories: 5.7%For services provided through businesses’ own online platforms in 2024, the largest shares were:Tickets and transport reservations: 30.5%; Passenger transportation services: 23.9%; Other services not classified elsewhere: 18.6%During the reporting period, the average transaction value for retail goods sold through businesses’ own online platforms was 39,179 tenge, while the average for services was 15,243 tenge.Preferred delivery methods included:Direct delivery via mail or other means: 45.8%; Pickup from sales/service points: 34%; Online delivery (downloads via websites/apps): 20.2% (ICE ALMATY)
