PILOT SMART BORDER PROJECT TO BE LAUNCHED AT MÓNG CÁI INT'L BORDER GATE
A pilot project to develop a smart international border gate at the Móng Cái (Việt Nam) – Dongxing (China) crossing is moving forward, with full backing from both countries’ central and local authorities. The initiative, jointly planned by Móng Cái City (Quảng Ninh Province) and Viettel Post JSC, aims to modernize cross-border trade and travel infrastructure. Viettel’s proposal includes the construction of a logistics center and the deployment of smart technologies, such as automated customs controls, facial recognition, QR code scanning, and integrated digital platforms. Infrastructure upgrades at Bắc Luân I and II gates are already underway, and trials of smart border solutions are in progress on the Vietnamese side. Meanwhile, Dongxing has completed its smart border system with AI-based monitoring and streamlined “single-window” customs clearance. Both cities are now working on technical integration, preparing for trial operations of the bilateral smart border system, which will include shared traffic monitoring, digital document processing, and synchronized customs procedures. This project is part of a broader bilateral effort to improve cross-border connectivity, trade efficiency, and security. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
