VIỆT NAM'S BIODIVERSITY RANKS 16TH GLOBALLY: OFFICIAL

Việt Nam ranks 16th globally in biodiversity, housing a rich array of rare and endangered species and valuable genetic resources, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyễn Quốc Trị. Speaking at an event in Cúc Phương National Park celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity 2025, Trị emphasized biodiversity’s critical role in sustainable development. With 178 protected areas nationwide, Việt Nam has made notable progress in conservation efforts, focusing on species protection and ecosystem restoration. The event reinforced the country’s commitment to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and its own national biodiversity strategy, highlighting the importance of science, technology, and inclusive action in balancing conservation with economic growth. Ninh Bình Province, the event’s host, showcased successful integration of biodiversity initiatives into local development and eco-tourism strategies. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
