ENI-PETRONAS MEGA JV MAY INCLUDE INDONESIA’S RICH KUTAI BASIN
Malaysian state oil firm, Petronas is seeking to include gas-rich assets in Indonesia’s Kutai Basin in its upcoming joint venture with Italy’s Eni, aiming to make Indonesia a central pillar of a new Southeast Asian energy powerhouse. The proposed JV, announced in February, targets managing 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent in reserves and boosting production to 500,000 boed. At the Indonesia Petroleum Association conference, Petronas executive Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman confirmed interest in Eni’s strategic assets in Kutai—particularly the Northern and Gendalo-Gandang gas hubs—as part of an asset swap deal involving holdings in Malaysia and Indonesia. The collaboration could significantly elevate Indonesia’s role in regional energy production, as analysts view the Kutai Basin’s massive reserves as key to unlocking new gas potential. While Petronas plans to exclude newer blocks like Binaiya and Serpang from the deal, the focus on mature, high-potential assets signals confidence in Indonesia’s upstream sector. If successful, the JV could position Indonesia among Eni’s top-producing countries by the 2030s, mirroring similar partnerships the Italian firm has executed in Angola and Norway.Source: https://oilprice.com/Company-News/Eni-Petronas-Mega-JV-May-Include-Indonesias-Rich-Kutai-Basin.html (ICE GIACARTA)
