ETF CAPITAL CONTINUES TO FLOW OUT OF VIETNAM DESPITE IMPROVED INVESTMENT OUTLOOK
Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) continued to see capital outflows from Vietnam’s stock market in mid-May, with over VNĐ210 billion withdrawn between May 12 and 16, marking the second consecutive week of net withdrawals and bringing the year-to-date total to more than VNĐ6.8 trillion. Major outflows were concentrated in domestic ETFs like the VFM VNDiamond ETF, while foreign funds such as Fubon FTSE Vietnam ETF and VanEck Vietnam ETF also experienced continued redemptions. Total ETF assets have fallen below VNĐ50 trillion, the lowest in nearly two years, reflecting investor caution amid global market volatility, US tariff concerns, and exchange rate fluctuations. However, analysts remain optimistic about a potential rebound, citing strong direct foreign buying, easing credit risks, and ongoing trade and market upgrade efforts. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
