VIỆT NAM BOOSTS RICE TRADE THROUGH 2030 WITH NEW MEASURES

To boost rice exports through 2030, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has introduced new measures focusing on stricter oversight, enhanced trade promotion, and expanded international negotiations. At a conference in Tiền Giang province, authorities urged localities to modernise production, strengthen value chain linkages, and diversify export markets to reduce reliance on traditional buyers. The province, a rice production hub, processes up to three million tonnes annually, generating around $100 million in exports. Despite exporting 3.43 million tonnes in the first four months of 2025, Vietnam saw an 8.1% increase in volume but a 13.3% drop in value, mainly due to lower global prices and India’s lifting of its export ban. Exporters are being urged to invest in deep processing and improve quality to meet international standards. MoIT is also revising rice export regulations to better adapt to global trends and enhance the sector’s long-term competitiveness. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
