ACCELLERON’S OMT ANNOUNCES $80 MILLION ITALIAN EXPANSION to Meet Surging Dual-Fuel Demand

Baden, Switzerland, May 5, 2025 — Accelleron’s marine-fuel injection subsidiary, Officine Meccaniche Torino (OMT), today unveiled an $80 million investment plan in Italy designed to double its injection-systems revenue to $150 million by 2029. OMT’s growth strategy rests on three main initiatives: expanding capacity at its Turin factory, constructing a new technology centre there, and boosting output at its recently acquired Brescia plant. Since Accelleron acquired OMT in 2023, the workforce has grown by 44 percent to 375 employees—partly through last summer’s purchase of Brescia-based OMC2. In Turin, OMT has already installed new machinery and added 50 staff in 2024; it expects to hire another 150 over the next three years. Today’s announcement sets aside $27 million for a 1,200 m² technology centre, with testing, assembly, prototype production and offices for 100 researchers. That facility is due to open in mid-2026 and will focus on next-generation injection solutions for ammonia, methanol and other emerging fuels. At Brescia, OMT is repurposing existing factory space and installing additional equipment. A planned extension, slated for completion by 2028, aims to triple the site’s output by 2029. The investments come amid mounting regulatory pressure from the International Maritime Organization, the EU and national bodies to cut shipping emissions. Dual-fuel engines—which can switch between conventional and synthetic “e-fuels”—are viewed as a key transitional technology. “Market demand is higher than what we can meet with our current capacities,” said Accelleron CEO Daniel Bischofberger. He added that efficiency upgrades, such as turbocharger retrofits, engine-load optimization and digital voyage-planning tools, will remain critical to reducing CO₂ and fuel costs even as new fuels come online.
