CATL TO BEGIN EV BATTERY PRODUCTION IN INDONESIA BY MARCH 2026
The Indonesian government confirmed that Chinese battery giant CATL will begin producing electric vehicle (EV) batteries in Indonesia by March 2026, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung announced. CATL has secured an off-taker and is preparing to launch operations with a planned production capacity of 15 GWh, with half already approved. The project will proceed in two phases due to Chinese regulatory requirements, and CATL is also raising funds through an IPO to support the full production target. This investment is a key part of Indonesia’s strategy to become a major player in the global EV supply chain, leveraging its rich nickel resources. Despite concerns about a slowdown in foreign investment, the CATL project is on track, signaling strong investor confidence in Indonesia’s growing EV industry.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/4324/corporate-affairs/catl-to-start-ev-battery-production-by-march-2026-deputy-esdm-minister (ICE GIACARTA)
