KAZAKHSTAN-INFRASTRUCTURE-FUNDING

Kazakhstan allocates 4.3 billion tenge for critical infrastructure upgradesThe Kazakh government has approved 4.3 billion tenge for infrastructure rehabilitation projects in two major cities, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov's office announced Monday. The funding package includes: 1.8 billion tenge to reconstruct water treatment facilities in Zhezkazgan and 2.5 billion tenge to repair boilers at Kyzylorda's Southern Heating Plant. The Zhezkazgan project involves complete modernization of the city's 1966-era water purification system, which currently operates at 90% capacity depletion. The upgrade will install membrane filtration technology to improve drinking water quality for the city's 98,600 residents."The funding will finance Phase 2 of Zhezkazgan’s water treatment plant overhaul, including installation of membrane filtration systems to modernize the 124,000-cubic-meter-per-day facility," the government said in a statement. In Kyzylorda, the emergency repairs will restore three boilers at the critical heating facility. "Project completion will prepare the system for the upcoming heating season and ensure stable heat supply for southern Kyzylorda residents, serving 197 apartment buildings, 73 public facilities, and 69 commercial properties," the government statement said.Government officials noted that the Southern Heating Plant's core equipment is currently in emergency condition and operating without backup capacity. The reconstruction project, launched in 2024, has already received 2.04 billion tenge from government reserves and 655 million tenge from regional funds. Both projects align with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's national priorities for utility sector modernization.
