Tokayev criticizes situation in transport sector FailuresPresident of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has sharply criticized the current situation in the country’s transport sector and reprimanded Transport Minister Marat Karabayev, the presidential press service reported.According to the press service, Kazakhstan’s Security Council held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the development of the transport and logistics industry. The meeting also heard reports from Karabayev and heads of the central government agencies."The head of state criticized the situation in the transport sector, where modernization is being hindered by systemic problems and failures to meet the set targets," says a statement published by the press service.The president highlighted problems such as cargo delays at border checkpoints, the unsatisfactory condition of many checkpoints, and delays in major transport infrastructure projects.Tokayev stressed the importance of establishing "green corridors" and leveraging the country’s logistical advantages. He stated that amid global challenges, Kazakhstan must not only maintain but also strengthen its competitive edge.The president also emphasized the need to ensure sufficient supplies of aviation fuel to boost cargo transportation.Additionally, he called for increasing transit volumes as a key step to achieving a multiplier effect, including through integration into global supply chains.Following the meeting, Tokayev issued a reprimand to Minister Karabayev for shortcomings in his work.The president demanded that effective measures should be taken to address problems faced by the transport and logistics sector.
