Kazakhstan to accelerate oil refineries modernization to supply market with aviation fuelPrime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting to implement instructions issued by the president at Wednesday’s Security Council session, the press service of the Kazakh government reported.The focus was on transport infrastructure, modernization of border checkpoints, and ensuring the country’s aviation fuel supply.“To provide the domestic market with affordably priced aviation fuel, a decision was made to expedite the modernization of domestic oil refineries,” the press release says.Additionally, the government discussed shortening timelines for key infrastructure projects. Emphasis was placed on the “high-quality and timely implementation” of agreements with neighboring countries to modernize checkpoints on Kazakh territory.To support transit cargo, a mechanism for customs-free clearance will be introduced, and the development of Kazakh external terminals will continue.“Amid rising cargo volumes by rail (20.5%) and pipeline (19.5%), the ministries of transport and finance, alongside relevant organizations, have been instructed to secure funding for priority projects impacting trade and transit flows within a week,” the government said.First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar has been tasked with preparing an action plan within two days, including regional visits for on-site control.The meeting included leadership from the ministries of transport and finance, the Samruk-Kazyna Fund, the national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, and the Border Service of the National Security Committee.As reported earlier, at Wednesday’s Security Council meeting, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev criticized the state of Kazakhstan’s transport sector, where modernization is hindered by systemic issues and unmet plans.
