SEAFOOD INDUSTRY WILL DIVERSIFY MARKET TO ACHIEVE EXPORT TARGET

Vietnam’s seafood sector has set ambitious goals for 2025, aiming for a 4.35% growth rate and $11 billion in export revenue. In the first four months of 2025, exports reached $3.3 billion, a 21% year-on-year increase, led by shrimp, pangasius, and molluscs. Shrimp exports surged 30% to $1.27 billion, driven by demand from China, Japan, and the EU. China and Hong Kong became the top markets, followed by Japan and the US. Vietnamese exporters are diversifying products and markets to manage risks, particularly in key markets like the US. Companies like Sao Ta Food and Minh Phú Seafood are expanding into South Korea, Australia, and Canada, with new facilities supporting increased production. Opportunities have emerged in Brazil and Russia, with Brazil lifting a ban on tilapia and Russian tuna imports increasing. The EU remains a major growth area, with Q1 shrimp exports up 33%. Authorities urge farmers to focus on long-term planning over short-term gains, promoting diversification beyond shrimp and pangasius to species like tilapia, eel, seaweed, and molluscs. The Ministry of Agriculture is backing sustainable aquaculture through high-tech, eco-friendly systems and AI in disease management. Provinces like Cà Mau and Bến Tre lead in sustainable practices and high-tech shrimp farming. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
