INDONESIA: MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY TARGETS NET ZERO EMISSION INDUSTRY BY 2050

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is intensifying efforts to decarbonize Indonesia's industrial sector as part of its commitment to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Recognizing the sector's significant and growing emissions, the ministry is implementing strategies such as carbon trading, emission reduction policies, and the promotion of Circular Economy, Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU), and Green Industry Standards. Nine key sectors—cement, ammonia, metals, pulp and paper, textiles, chemicals, ceramics and glass, food and beverage, and transportation—are prioritized for emission cuts. To date, 149 Green Industry Standard Certifications have been issued, encouraging efficient resource use and sustainability in production processes. To support the transition, the ministry is also fostering the development of GISCO (Green Industry Service Company) to bridge industries with green financing. Additionally, it is promoting Smart-Eco Industrial Parks—high-tech, water-efficient zones—as pilot projects for sustainable industrial development. Six regions are already serving as models for these environmentally conscious parks. Minister Agus Gumiwang emphasized that sustainable practices not only align with investor preferences—57% now favor green investments—but also create new market opportunities, urging collaboration among government, industry players, and communities to accelerate progress toward a greener economy.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/kemenperin-targetkan-net-zero-emission-industri-pada-2050-begini-strateginya (ICE GIACARTA)
