INDONESIA LEADING IN RICE PRODUCTION IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

Indonesia has emerged as the leading rice producer in Southeast Asia, with national rice reserves reaching a historic 3.7 million tons as of May 13, 2025. Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman credited this achievement to collaborative efforts across stakeholders, including farmers, local and central governments, and Bulog. According to the USDA's April 2025 Rice Outlook, Indonesia's rice production for the 2024–2025 season is projected at 34.6 million tons—an increase of 4.8% from the previous year—surpassing traditional rice giants like Thailand and Vietnam. This success is attributed to strategic government policies such as subsidized fertilizer programs, enhanced agricultural mechanization, accelerated planting, and digitalization efforts. The government also increased the purchase price of unhusked rice and expanded warehouse infrastructure to absorb harvests efficiently. With food stockpiles at their highest since Bulog's establishment in 1969, Indonesia is not only securing domestic food stability but also positioning itself as a potential global rice exporter.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/355009/ri-leading-in-rice-production-in-southeast-asia-minister?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
