KMG International restarts polymer unit at Petromidia refinery in Romania, targets 145,000 tonnes in 2025KMG International has resumed operations at its low-density polyethylene (LDPE) production unit at the Petromidia refinery in Romania, aiming to produce 145,000 tonnes of polymers this year, Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas said.The LDPE unit, which was halted in late 2023, is being reintegrated into Petromidia’s petrochemical complex as part of KMG International’s plan to solidify its position as Romania’s sole national polymer producer. The company decided to restart the plant in response to rising demand for petrochemical products in Europe.“The European market has seen increased demand for petrochemical products since the start of the year. In response, KMG International resumed operations at the low-density polyethylene unit to boost production and financial results while reclaiming its leadership in the regional polymer market,” the company said.The LDPE unit, with a capacity of 75,000 tonnes per year, will begin producing materials in May for shrink wrap, agricultural and thin packaging films, and durable bags.KMG International plans to produce over 145,000 tonnes of polymers in 2025.KazMunayGas is Kazakhstan’s national operator for hydrocarbon exploration, production, processing, and transportation. KMG International, its Romanian subsidiary, manages over 1,300 retail outlets in Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, and Georgia under the Rompetrol brand and owns the Petromidia refinery. (ICE ALMATY)
