VIETNAM AGRICULTURE TRANSFORMATION EMBRACES SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY

Vietnam’s agriculture and environment sectors are entering a pivotal stage, with science, technology, and digital transformation driving future development. At a workshop in Bắc Ninh Province, Minister Đỗ Đức Duy stressed the urgency of innovation to meet goals outlined in Resolution 57, which prioritizes these pillars for sustainable and breakthrough growth. Recent advancements include smart farming, digital environmental monitoring, and databases for land and weather management. However, the minister emphasized that more effort is needed to fully realize these transformations. Bắc Ninh Province is actively promoting high-tech and ecological agriculture through public-private partnerships, supporting climate-resilient farming and advanced processing for exports. Chairman Vương Quốc Tuấn highlighted efforts to boost productivity, protect resources, and enhance livelihoods by encouraging innovation at all levels. Nationally, Vietnam aims to be among the world’s top 50 in science and tech by leveraging current opportunities. According to the National Digital Transformation Agency, by 2030, the digital economy is projected to contribute 30% of GDP, with goals to lead ASEAN in AI and establish five world-class tech firms. By 2045, this figure is targeted to reach 50%. Human capital remains central to these ambitions, with bold policies underway to foster innovation, allow for experimental space, and promote tech-savvy leadership. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
