INDONESIA PREPARES GREEN INDUSTRY FUNDING REGULATIONS, PRIORITIZES 9 SUB SECTORS
Indonesia's Industry Minister, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, plans to issue new regulations this year to ease access to funding for manufacturing companies transitioning to green industries, as part of Indonesia's 2050 Net Zero Emission (NZE) roadmap. Recognizing that many manufacturers still see green initiatives as costly rather than as investments, the government aims to shift this mindset by facilitating funding through global financial institutions. The initial focus will be on nine key sub-sectors, including cement, metals (which includes nickel smelters), transportation, ceramics, chemicals, food, paper, fertilizers, and nickel smelters. The Ministry of Industry will group and promote projects under the Green Industry Service Company (Gisco) to attract financing, with institutions like the European Investment Bank already committing US$2 billion for 2025. Meanwhile, criticism arose regarding the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), particularly from the President’s Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, who claims the US has failed to deliver its promised US$5 billion grant, casting doubt on the program’s future—especially if Donald Trump returns to office.Source: https://katadata.co.id/ekonomi-hijau/investasi-hijau/681c9f35b9168/kemenperin-siapkan-aturan-pendanaan-industri-hijau-prioritaskan-9-subsektor (ICE GIACARTA)
