INDONESIA EXPANDS CARBON TRADING AGREEMENTS WITH MULTIPLE COUNTRIES
Environment Minister of Indonesia, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, announced that Indonesia is preparing a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on carbon trading with several countries, with Norway being the most advanced in negotiations and expected to finalize the agreement within one to two weeks. This follows Indonesia's MRA with Japan signed at COP29, which serves as a model for bilateral cooperation under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. Indonesia also aims to expand similar agreements with countries like South Korea and Denmark. To strengthen its carbon trading framework, Indonesia is pursuing partnerships with international carbon standards such as the Gold Standard Foundation, Verra, and Plan Vivo. These initiatives fall under the Carbon Economic Value (NEK) framework and support Indonesia’s enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets by leveraging carbon credits from diverse sources, including tropical forests, peatlands, mangroves, and the energy sector.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/354481/indonesia-expands-carbon-trading-agreements-with-multiple-countries?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
