Kazakhstan’s National Bank to maintain $950 mln–$1 bln currency sales from National Fund in MayThe National Bank of Kazakhstan expects to sell between $950 million and $1.05 billion in foreign currency from the National Fund in May, matching April’s level, according to a statement released Friday."Based on preliminary government projections for budget transfers, the National Bank expects to sell between $950 million and $1.05 billion from the National Fund in May," the bank said in a statement Friday.In April, the National Fund sold $968 million in foreign currency, within the expected range, ensuring the required budget funding.Sales from the National Fund accounted for 18% of total foreign exchange trading volume in April, averaging approximately $44 million per day. The National Bank did not conduct direct currency interventions last month.The Kazakhstani tenge weakened by 1.6% in April, closing at 512.48 tenge per U.S. dollar. Average daily trading volume on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange rose slightly from $243 million to $246 million, with total monthly turnover reaching $5.4 billion. (ICE ALMATY)
