ETHIOPIA: DIRE DAWA APPROVES OVER 400 INVESTMENT PROJECTS
The Dire Dawa City Administration has approved more than 404 new local investment projects within the first nine months of the current fiscal year, exceeding its annual target, according to the Dire Dawa Investment Bureau. The certified projects, with a combined value of over Birr 30 billion, span a range of sectors including manufacturing, construction, services, and agriculture. Of the total, 105 projects are in the manufacturing sector, 187 in services, while the rest fall under construction and agriculture. The growth in investment has been linked to enhanced public-private collaboration and streamlined administrative processes that have simplified the investment approval system. These efforts have significantly reduced bureaucratic delays, enabling faster project implementation. In addition to regulatory improvements, the city is also introducing incentives aimed at attracting members of the Diaspora originally from Dire Dawa. These measures are designed to encourage greater involvement in the city’s economic development.Dire Dawa’s cultural diversity is also seen as a contributing factor to increased investor confidence, supporting the city's ambition to position itself as a leading regional industrial hub.
