INDONESIA RESPONDS TO U.S. TARIFFS WITH FIVE-POINT POLICY REFORM PLAN

In response to the United States' reciprocal tariff policies, the Indonesian government plans to implement sweeping regulatory reforms aimed at both addressing trade tensions and improving its national regulatory framework. These reforms, led by a newly formed deregulation task force, will include revisions to the Domestic Component Level (TKDN)—especially in the ICT sector—adjustments to import duties on select U.S. products, and streamlining of import license and quota policies. The government also intends to eliminate certain technical regulations, particularly those viewed as trade barriers, as highlighted in the USTR’s 2025 National Trade Estimate Report. Beyond trade-related adjustments, Indonesia is also preparing broader structural reforms. These include tax and customs administration reforms to ease the burden on businesses, and the introduction of trade remedies in line with WTO guidelines to protect domestic industries from unfair import practices. According to officials, this momentum is not solely a reaction to the U.S. but a strategic opportunity for overhauling the national regulatory system to enhance competitiveness and investor confidence.Source: https://en.tempo.co/read/2003256/indonesia-responds-to-u-s-tariffs-with-five-point-policy-reform-plan (ICE GIACARTA)
