INDONESIA STICKS TO AMBITIOUS 1 MILLION BPD OIL PRODUCTION TARGET BY 2030

The Indonesian government is determined to meet its ambitious goal of increasing domestic oil production to 1 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2030, nearly double the current level of around 580,000 bpd. Despite a prolonged decline in output since 1997, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia remains optimistic, citing strategies such as reactivating idle wells—only 16,000 out of 40,000 are currently operational—and redirecting crude exports to local refineries as key steps toward meeting both short-term and long-term targets. For 2025, the state budget sets a target of 605,000 bpd, which Bahlil believes will be exceeded. Indonesia’s production has steadily dropped from 707,000 bpd in 2020 to 606,000 bpd in 2023. In response, the government also plans to allocate 13 million barrels of the country’s 28 million-barrel oil export volume to domestic use, aiming to strengthen energy security and reduce dependency on fuel imports—particularly from major suppliers like Singapore.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-sticks-to-ambitious-1-million-bpd-oil-production-target-by-2030-despite-downward-trend (ICE GIACARTA)
