INDONESIA SECURES US$60M FOR FLOATING SOLAR PROJECT THROUGH JETP
Standard Chartered, along with Germany’s DEG and France’s Proparco, has announced a US$60 million investment to construct the 92 MWp Saguling floating solar photovoltaic plant in West Java, Indonesia. Operated by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and PLN Indonesia Power, the plant is expected to begin operations in 2026 and offset over 63,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. This marks the first project-level financing under Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) since the U.S. withdrew from the initiative. Despite the U.S. pullout, stakeholders including France and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Indonesia’s clean energy transition. Originally valued at US$21.6 billion, the JETP aimed to help Indonesia shift from coal to renewable energy, with half the funds expected from public donors and the rest from private financiers like members of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ). The U.S. had pledged over 20% of the public funds but has since exited, casting doubt on the initiative’s future. With Germany and Japan now leading JETP efforts, and GFANZ stepping in for private sector coordination, Jakarta remains cautious, especially regarding financing for critical needs like early coal plant retirements and green energy infrastructure that still lack sufficient grant support.Source: https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2025/04/30/ri-secures-60m-for-floating-solar-project-through-jetp.html (ICE GIACARTA)
