Ethio telecom’s mobile money platform, Telebirr, has facilitated over Birr 4.1 trillion in transactions since its launch in May 2021.During the launch of the new Wabii Digital Finance platform, developed in partnership with Siinqee Bank, Ethio telecom CEO Firehiwot Tamiru highlighted Telebirr’s role in expanding financial access and promoting digital inclusion. The platform has attracted over 52.56 million users, with daily transactions surpassing Birr 7.6 billion. It has also mobilized USD 14.79 million in international remittances, with 38% of users transacting digitally.Siinqee Bank President Neway Megersa described the partnership as a strategic move to extend microfinance services and digital access to underserved rural populations. He noted that Siinqee’s deposits had grown by 975%, total assets now approach Birr 100 billion, and loans have reached Birr 44 billion.The collaboration aims to reduce manual financial costs, enhance efficiency, and empower entrepreneurs through inclusive digital financial solutions.
