Despite a global slowdown in electric vehicle (EV) demand, Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mukhtarudin, sees strong potential for Indonesia to emerge as a key player in the global EV industry. He cites several strategic advantages, including the country's vast reserves of nickel, copper, manganese, and cobalt—essential materials for EV components—and government policies promoting downstream processing rather than raw material exports. Indonesia’s geostrategic location, large domestic market, and growing foreign investment, such as from China’s Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, further enhance its position in the EV supply chain. However, Mukhtarudin stresses that consistent regulations, rapid infrastructure development, and investment in skilled human resources are crucial to fully realizing Indonesia’s EV industry potential.
