Tokayev orders further development of industrial and economic zones in Almaty regionKazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed the administration of the Almaty region to increase the potential of the industrial zones and the Alatau Special Economic Zone and also to prioritize the construction of utility infrastructure and motor roads, the presidential press service reported.On Monday, Almaty region governor Marat Sultangaziyev informed the president about the social and economic development of the region in the 1st quarter of 2025.According to Sultangaziyev, the industrial output of the Almaty region reached 507.9 billion tenge in value and the agricultural production totaled 97.4 billion tenge. The number of small and medium-sized businesses grew by 7.7%, reaching 146,200 entities.Sultangaziyev told the president that as many as 12 new industrial projects have been launched since the beginning of the year, including the expansion of GALANZ Bottlers plant, the construction of the Bartogay hydro power plant GES-28 and a cascade of small hydropower plants on the Sharyn River. All in all, 122 projects worth 2.4 trillion tenge are currently underway in the region, having created 36,776 jobs.The governor updated Tokayev on urban development in Konayev and Alatau cities. Under a new master plan, a Smart Qonaev city management system is being introduced in Konayev, which is the administrative center of the Almaty region, and the city roads and utility infrastructure are being upgraded. In addition, the master plan of Alatau is now being revised and utility and transport infrastructure being planned.As many as 17 schools are being built in the region under the Comfortable School National Program. To address triple-shift schooling, another 19 schools will be built through public-private partnerships, and 91 schools will undergo major repairs in 2025-2027, Sultangaziyev said.Concluding the meeting, Tokayev stressed the importance of timely and proper implementation of all development plans for the cities of Konayev and Alatau, as well as the whole Almaty region. He reiterated the need to focus on further development of the industrial zones and the Alatau Special Economic Zone, as well as utility infrastructure and local motor roads in the region.
