Digitization of drug registration in Kazakhstan to be completed by July 1 -Health MinistryThe digitization of pharmaceutical product registration under the single window principle is to be completed by July 1, 2025, as reported by the press service of the Kazakh government, citing Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova.“The digitization of business processes and pharmaceutical product registration under the single window principle will be finalized by July 1,” Alnazarova stated during a meeting of the council on investment climate improvement.Additionally, she noted plans to revise drug pricing mechanisms and integrate information systems with databases from the Ministry of Finance and customs services. These steps aim to ensure price transparency and stability while fostering competition.Alnazarova highlighted that outpatient medication coverage in Kazakhstan has more than tripled since 2018, reaching 250 billion tenge. The Ministry of Health is currently updating the outpatient drug list, prioritizing medications that impact mortality, life expectancy, and disability rates.The proposal to digitize drug registration and transition it to a single window e-government service format was introduced in 2022 by the Agency for Protection and Development of Competition (APDC). At the time, Kazakhstan regulated over 7,700 medications, but the process for setting price limits remained bureaucratic and unclear for both government bodies and businesses.APDC emphasized that drug registration was lengthy and complex for businesses, taking 3–5 years to introduce new medications to Kazakhstan.
