KAZAKHSTAN-GYPSUM-IMPORT-BAN

Kazakhstan proposes three-month import ban on gypsum board, paving stoneKazakhstan’s government plans to impose a three-month ban on imports of gypsum board and stone products from countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), according to the Ministry of Trade and Integration. The proposal, supported by an interdepartmental commission on foreign trade policy, aims to protect "domestic producers, who have committed to maintaining current prices for these goods."In 2024, Kazakhstan produced 95,200 metric tonnes of paving stones against the domestic demand of 58,760 metric tonnes. For gypsum board, local manufacturers supplied 35.5 million square meters, slightly below the 38.8 million square meters consumed domestically. The country’s total production capacity for gypsum board stands at approximately 46 million square meters. The commission also extended anti-dumping measures on hot-rolled seamless pipes from China and galvanized steel from China and Ukraine. Additionally, it approved automatic licensing for plywood exports to monitor outbound trade flows. (ICE ALMATY)
