CONTRACTORS SUBMIT BIDS FOR DIRIYAH’S KING KHALID ROAD

Saudi gigaproject developer Diriyah Company has received proposals from contractors for the main construction works on King Khalid Road, which passes through the Diriyah project in Riyadh. The bids were submitted in the second week of April. The estimated $1bn project includes the construction works on three interchanges and will connect King Khalid Road with the Northern Ring Road and Western Ring Road. Diriyah Company issued the tender notice for the project on 3 November. In August, Diriyah Company had started clarifications with the bidders that submitted prequalification documents for the main construction works on King Khalid Road. The construction works on the tunnel for the Western Ring Road were completed in late 2023. The Western Ring Road connects Diriyah to one of Riyadh’s main highways at exit 38. It spans 435 metres and has eight lanes on the southbound and northbound routes. The tunnel was inaugurated in January 2024. Developed by Diriyah Company, the Diriyah masterplan envisages the city as a cultural and lifestyle tourism destination. Located northwest of Riyadh’s city centre, it covers 14 square kilometres and combines 300 years of history, culture and heritage with hospitality facilities. Earlier this month, Diriyah Company had awarded an estimated $1.3bn construction deal to build the Royal Diriyah Opera House project. The contract was awarded to the joint venture of local firm El-Seif Engineering & Contracting, Beijing-headquartered China State Construction Engineering Corporation and Qatari firm Midmac Contracting. The opera house will be built by the Diriyah Company and operated by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. The company awarded several significant contracts last year, including three major contracts worth over $5.5bn. These include an estimated $2bn contract awarded to a joint venture of El-Seif Engineering & Contracting and China State to build the North Cultural District. In late July, Diriyah also awarded a $2.1bn package to a joint venture of local contractor Albawani and Qatar’s Urbacon to construct assets in the Wadi Safar district of the gigaproject. In December, Diriyah Company had awarded an estimated $1.5bn contract to local firm Nesma & Partners for its Jabal Al-Qurain Avenue cultural district, located in the northern district of the Diriyah Gate project.   For registration as a supplier: https://www.diriyahksa.com/Account/Register (ICE RIYADH)
