RI TO INCREASE SHARE OF LPG IMPORTS FROM US TO 85 PERCENT
The government is planning to boost imports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and crude oil from the United States as part of negotiation efforts over the US tariffs imposed on goods imported from Indonesia. LPG is the primary cooking fuel for households across the country and Indonesia largely relies on imports of the commodity to meet domestic demand. US President Donald Trump has imposed a 10 percent blanket tariff on imports from all countries, as well as higher duties on select nations, including a 32 percent rate for Indonesia. The tariffs were imposed in a bid to reduce the US deficit with trade partners. The US trade deficit with Indonesia was recorded at $17.9 billion last year, up 5.4 percent year-on-year (yoy), according to data from the US Trade Representative Office. However, BPS data show that Indonesia only saw a surplus of $16.84 billion in 2024. In response to the US tariffs, the government plans to buy more US goods as part of its strategy to appease Washington and lower its tariffs on imports from Indonesia.Source : https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2025/04/21/ri-to-increase-share-of-lpg-imports-from-us-to-85-percent.html (ICE GIACARTA)
